Powdered Kava Review Initial Impressions

Pzk

I received some Kelai, MeloMelo and Borongoru today and just did a visual and smell test.

Just a first impression, I'll tell about quality of effects and the kava later.

It is not the finest grind, that's no downside to me, just as a note.

Kelai and MeloMelo are a bit dark. Experience wise, normally not the best sign regarding quality.

Borongoru is the most bright of the three.

Smell: As the grind and color implies, the smell has some "woody" tone to it, which points to a certain quality, which is normally not the best you can get.

Borongoru seems to be the best smell and look wise.

But... just a first impression, this evening I will know more about the effects.

I had a 50gr bonus! Thx for that!

The parcel came in a "Kavazon" bag, means there is a huge graphic/picture of the Kavazon Brain and the name "Kavazon" on the bag. If you prefer some anonymity, not so nice, actually.

I hope it is OK to write my impressions here, until you have a own vendor section.

Just had some Kelai.

I don't know how huge the difference is within real "Kelai", but I know Kelai from Kavaeurope and I know what others say about Kelai.

To me it is no Kelai, I am sorry. But it is very potent! I am impressed with the potency of this kava.

Your description on your homepage is right, some "evening" Kava, but not a clear headed Kelai like I am used to and what people look for when they hear the word "Kelai".

The taste .... well... if you take the price and potency in consideration, you can't complain. It is what you smelled and saw.

To be able to describe the effects more detailed I have to take it more often. But one thing is clear to me: No Kelai effect...

Now I tried MeloMelo und Borongoru, too.

I have to admit, since being used to a certain quality, texture, smell, taste and effect wise... I am not so impressed.

Normally if the effects are great, I don't care about the taste a lot.

Borongoru, like already seen before, look+smell is better, but still this woody taste like I know it from a source selling Kava that is just "strange".

Perhaps I need to give those Kavas more time and chances.

I really have to say i can't deal with this taste.

The MeloMelo was so hard to sip and the effect was really "off" - perhaps it interfered with the Kelai comedown. So I have to try again. And I had MeloMelo from three sources in total before.

But the tendency is clear. Atm I enjoy the Borongoru effect. I guess next time it would be just the Borongoru I would order again.

I don't like to give bad feedbacks, but lets be honest. I don't want to lie. When I gave your kava more time, even though the taste won't change, and I see I made a huge mistake, I will say sorry and write some good feedbacks.

What bothers me is: When people new to kava, try kava the first times, and have no clue how it could be...

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts… totally understandable. Tastes and preferences vary widely when it comes to kava. Some drink it for calm focus, others for sleep, anxiety relief, deeper bodily relaxation and so on. I’ve actually been supplying a few local CrossFit gyms where people take kava after intense workouts, mostly for muscle relaxation and recovery. In those cases, they tend to prefer something strong and heavy, and often mix it with juice to help with rehydration.

I’ve had all kinds of feedback, some people absolutely love a particular batch, while others might find the same one too strong, too earthy, or simply not to their liking. That’s totally normal, and honestly very helpful. It’s clear not every kava suits every palate or purpose, and that’s something I always try to keep in mind when choosing future varieties.

That said, I’ve got some new varieties arriving soon and will definitely pass your feedback on to the supplier. Luckily, they’ve been very open and collaborative when it comes to sourcing and making adjustments. I’ve also asked for some milder, smoother profiles in future shipments to broaden the spectrum.

Personally, I’ve never been into kava for the taste, it’s always been about the effects and potency for me. Same goes for alcohol: I never drank vodka or wine for the flavor either. But everyone’s got their own preference, and that’s what keeps this plant culture so interesting.

Hopefully one of the upcoming batches will be a better fit for your palate… and in any case, I really appreciate you taking the time to try the current ones and share your impressions.
